Konan Specular Microscopes are non-contact, easy-to-use endothelial cell count systems designed to be used by your less-experienced technicians. The systems feature auto alignment, auto focus and auto shoot.
The Konan systems quickly and thoroughly assess cell loss or damage. Images of the endothelial cells are used for examining the health of the cornea before and after cataract and refractive surgeries and as a part of a practice's contact lens patient care. Konan Specular Microscopes are both clinically necessary and highly reimbursable.

Evaluation of Corneal Health
Currently, surgeons use Konan systems for pre- and post- op analysis of the cornea. With the emergence of IOLS designed to correct presbyopia and ICLs, it is more important than ever to document a patient's corneal health pre- and post- op. When appropriate, both ophthalmologists and optometrists may bill CPT code 92286 for indications such as cornea dystrophy (37157) and cornea edema (37120), with per-patient reimbursements ranging from $50 to $150. |
Contact Lens Practices
Konan Specular Microscopes are also becoming a standard-of-care tool for managing contact lens patients. Many optometrists are performing a Konan diagnostic exam at the time of initial fitting to document the general health of the cornea and the proper lens fit. Depending upon initial findings (polymegathism), the screening is repeated at six months to determine the cornea's stability. The typical reimbursement for this screening is $40 per patient. The image on the Konan screen provides your patients an easy-to-understand image of their corneal health, which can help reinforce proper contact lens use and care. With only 10 screenings per week, Konan microscopes can generate more than $1,600 in additional gross revenue for your practice per month per the national average reimbursement.

Cellcheck SP™ & Cellcheck XL™
The Cellchek SP™ specular microscope represents the latest in endothelial cell analysis algorithms, computer technology and database as well as a full and semi-automated cell analysis package. This feature reduces the exam and analysis time to less than 30 seconds. This software allows the operator to use the computer to assist in assessing key endothelial parameters and track changes in patients over time. The Cellchek SP also includes has a non-contact pachymetry feature. The microscope system includes all peripheral hardware, motorized table, printer, and color LCD.
The Cellchek XL™ includes the same features as the Cellchek SP as well as five fixation points― central, along with four peripheral targets to give a more comprehensive look at the cornea. The System also locates the site on the cornea where the photograph was taken. This
is valuable when you wish to return to the same location on the cornea after surgery or for sequential follow up. The system also has a
non-contact pachymetry feature in all five target zones. The microscope system includes all peripheral hardware, motorized table, printer, and color LCD.

Noncon Robo Series SP-8800 & SP-9000
This system offers an endothelial cell count using central and five-position peripheral photography. The SP-8800 also performs analysis on parameters, such as cell density, coefficient variation and percentage of cells that are six sided.
The SP-9000 offers all the SP-8800 features, plus the automatic measurement of central corneal thickness. Peripheral pachymetry measurements can also be taken when specifically using Pachy mode. Images of the cells and the data may be printed on an optional video printer and/or stored on one of the three CPU-based storage systems.
